Meet me outside the main entrance to Baker West at 7:30am on Tuesday morning. We'll walk over to the Ohio Union together to be assigned a volunteer location.

Study Abroad: Spring Break 2011
A mystery no more: The 2011 Study Abroad will be focused in The Netherlands, with travel to Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
Firs-year students: Expect a phone call from Arch/Larch 200 Instructor Aimee Moore. In addition to teaching Arch/Larch 200 this fall, Aimee will be co-leading the 2011 study abroad program and its seminar course. She'll be in touch with you soon to share details and answer questions.

Fallingwater + Kentuck Knob Registration
The first Architecture Scholars trip of 2010 is just a month away. Hopefully October 2 is already marked on your calendar! The cost is $20/student and includes admission to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, transportation and lunch. The registration deadline is Friday, September 24.

Period: Post-Modernism - 'an effort to more directly engage popular culture and in reaction to the abstraction and minimalism of Modern Architecture [...] issues addressed by Post-Modernism include the structure of the traditional city and urbanism, semiotics, typology and the linguistic value of architectural signs' (Ideas of Order, 356)
Brandgrens uses light objects and information stations to permanently mark the areas of Rotterdam which were destroyed by the bombing and subsequent fires on May 14, 1940. Nearly all of the city center was destroyed in the 15 minutes of bombing. Incorporating the iconic image of a flame into the light objects creates public awareness of the history and location of the event within the context of the contemporary city. jazzy_fact: The Permanent Marking of the Brandgrens is a finalist in the 2010 Dutch Design Awards (DDA), chosen from over 700 projects; the project is also up for the Public Award, in which the public cast a vote for their favorite of six select finalists.
